Poem for my brothers

Distance shapes the world, and makes it a place worth seeing, a place worth exploring. But distance drives a wedge in between us, until we're too far from one another to reach out and understand.
My brothers from the other side of the world, you have shown me the beauty of the world, even as you suffer its horrors. And while I see destruction of home and family and freedom and life, I see the eyes of a man like me, hoping in tomorrow.
